Books about Windows

I ask myself, what will be the Book Industry without Windows - I think we never would have all those IT book shelfs in a store when there would be no Windows. When you go on search at amazon.com and type in "Microsoft Windows" and category "Books" - Amazon will give you 20,841! results for Books about Windows - amazing. Funny enough, 260 Books of the search results are inside the category "History", 15 are inside the category "Science Fiction" and 160 in the category "Home & Garden" - well, the last one makes me a bit helpless. Last week I saw a book about Vista that has the dimension of a cube - yes, it was the same size thick then it was high and width - no joke - it was a cube. The title was "Master Windows Vista" and it has over 1800 pages -   you can't even read it - you must cut it into pieces of - let me say - 200 pages each.

I Want a New iMac!

Last week I decided to buy a new iMac. I want the new 24" 2.8GHz. Since 2 days I am trying to get this baby but it is not possible. All what I hear is that the iMac is out of stock and the 2.8GHz must be ordered from Apple anyway but Apple can't deliver it and no shop has a 2.8GHz iMac on the shelf :( Most of the shop keepers also told me that I should try it again in one month - WHAT?... ONE MONTH? I don't know if this is a problem of Apple or some manufacture that delivers parts for the new iMac or if Apple sold too many iMacs - which is good for Apple but bad for anybody who wants to buy one.

Moving from PC to a Mac

Since I moved from a PC to my iMac with all my data and shut down the PC for ever I was asked by a lot of people how to do it in an easy way. Most of the PC users don't know where all the files are that they produce within the last years on their PC. Questions like "Where are my photos?", "Where are my music files?" are normal when I help them transfering their data from a PC to their Mac. Well, most of the time users save their data in the "My Files" Folder - so this is easy. But what about files that are stored in the Program Directory? My father for example is happy with it's Adobe Elements. He can manage all his photos and create albums that he can send us. But when I ask him - where are your photos on your harddrive - he don't know.

Today I took a look at my local Apple store and found a little book about how to switch from a PC to a Mac and I was surprised that sort of book exist. Later on at home I searched the Apple Support page and I found a very great help section called "Switch 101" - which has a lot of informations about how to switch from a PC to  your new Mac. I think Apple needs to make this more public and thats why I writing about it here - because I didn't know that Apple offering such information on their website. There is also a software called Mac File Transfer available to make it easier to move your data.

Want a Mac? Buy one and turn off your PC forever!

What's Up with GMail?

During the last 12 hours I saw major outages in GMail. The Service is either not available or damn slow. I saw that some days ago too but today it is really bad and the service don't respond when I want to send mails. I think the biggest issue is sending emails - when I hit refresh or reload the page is is ok. Anybody with the same experience?
