Apple, Volkswagen and the iCar

It's IAA in Frankfurt, Germany - the "International Automobil Ausstellung" and Volkswagen presenting it's new study of a "green" car that could reach the market in 2009/2010. The "VW UP!". I saw some shots of the car and also of the interior design and instruments. When you look at the intruments I really ask me - is Apple already designing parts of this Car and is this the iCar that hit the press by end of August.

Look at the font used in this instrument, the mirror effects below "CO2" and the overall design. It definitly looks like an Apple Design.

Here is another shot that shows a Display for Car-Control or Navigation to the right. Looks a bit like the Frontrow Menu with the rotating options :)

I love Transmit

Since I am using my Mac I am a really big fan of Transmit from Panic the wonderful FTP application that makes you happy. Transmit is more than a normal FTP application and it shows you that Mac applications are well designed and that the developers of Transmit love their baby. On Windows I took a look at a lot of FTP Applications but there was no application that you can compare with Transmit.

Last week Panic released version 3.6 of Transmit and I saw that they now included Amazon S3 storage solution - which is really great. I am using Amazon S3 Storage solution for over half a year now to backup my data and I am very happy about it and I pay a really low price to store my data save and secure.

Today I took a detailed look into the new option in Transmit to access your S3 Buckets. Setting up your Amazon S3 Account on Transmit is very easy it's handled like a normal FTP account. All what you need are your Secret Key and your Secret Access Key that you get from the AWS website, setup a new connection and choose Amazon S3 as Protokoll enter your secrete keys and you are done. A double click on your new connection and you are connected to your Amazon S3 Buckets.

The best thing is - and thats what I missed a bit on Jungledisc - you can see all buckets you have and you create new ones or delete buckets. Another option let you set the access rights to buckets and files - simply right click on your files and folders and choose information. Last option is great if you like to share files with clients or friends. Simply start a new Bucket - upload a file and right click on the file to set the access rights to READ:ALL and everybody who knows the URL can access the file. Amazon S3 URLs are looking like this > http://s3.amazonaws.com/YOUR BUCKET NAME/YOUR FILE NAME

Transmit offers also a great way to access your .Mac iWeb storage and it also offers great features like FTP Droplets and a very nice Dashboard. More details can be found at their website.
